Sponsorship

I am running to raise money for The Wounded Warrior Project.  Their  mission is to "honor and empower wounded warriors" of the United States Armed Forces.

"The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) works to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs."  -Wounded Warrior Mission Statement

This organization was founded in 2002 by John Melia, who had been severely wounded in a helicopter crash while serving in Somalia in 1992.  Here are a few of numerous accomplishments by the organization:

  • They have had tremendous success with their Backpack Program, delivering backpacks containing personal supplies to wounded soldiers.  Without family or friends bringing personal items to the hospital, soldiers were without "essential care and comfort items such as clothing, toiletries, calling card and playing cards, all designed to make their hospital stay more comfortable."
  • They have also arranged for all building permits and fees to be waived for handicap equipped new housing or retrofitting, in their home state of Florida.  Similar achievements have been made on a state level.
  • The Traumatic Injury Protection Law for all active duty service members created up to $100,000 of insurance to pay wounded soldiers once admitted into a stateside military hospital. WWP helped create and draft the proposed legislation. The legislation was signed into law by President George W. Bush in under two months due to the successful lobbying efforts of WWP

Training and this race is expensive! I did have to pay an entry fee for this race, and I can hardly afford it.  Between the two pair of shoes, the entry fee, processing fee, mandatory insurance, and gas to make it to the race, I'm going to be pretty hard up for cash.  If you have found this blog useful for your training, deciding which shoe to purchase, or has helped motivate you to pursue your personal fitness and would like to give back, you can make a small contribution to show your appreciation.  Your money will go towards my cost, and for future training equipment (right now I'm mostly using people's old equipment). Please leave a message in the comment box if you do leave me a donation.  Thank you for your support.

Please note that clicking on Donate will send money to me, not the Wounded Warrior Project.  To make a charity contribution for the race, click the big red Donate Now button above or the banner with soldiers.

  2. Without question, it's for a good cause. And I felt you needed some recognition for all your hard work at training for the darn race. It takes balls to run through fire. I certainly would never do it.
